The journey from The Groves to The Commons and where we are today.
The land where The Commons now stands was purchased by Deaconess in 2006 for a senior community called The Groves. It was the site of an old schoolhouse—and a stand of apple trees that was transplanted after the area was developed. When Deaconess failed to complete construction, the Masonic Health System took over and completed 168 units.
When Benchmark took over management of the property in 2013, it was only 58 percent occupied. Benchmark added another 90 apartments and a premier Independent Living community, upgrading The Commons to a full CCRC—and fulfilling its true potential. Today, The Commons offers Independent Living, Assisted Living, Memory Care, Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing. Within one year of opening the full campus, The Commons was 100% occupied across all communities.
