A Day Filled with Chrome and Community

Not long ago, on a warm summer day, the Pepperell Town Field gleamed with chrome and custom paint jobs. More than 250 classic cars, vintage trucks, hot rods and modern sports cars gathered for the Yankee POCI charity car show, raising more than $13,000. Earlier this month, Kara Davidson presented the donation to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.

“Our board overwhelmingly voted to select St. Jude’s as the beneficiary of this year’s charity car show and the public responded with a tremendous turnout,” said Kara. “We were also heartened by a $2,500 donation from 1A Auto and a $2,500 anonymous donation.”

Passionate Enthusiasts Giving Back

Kara Davidson, who is the director of business administration for The Commons, is the secretary of the Yankee Chapter of the Pontiac-Oakland Club International (POCI). The club draws more than 160 members from across the region who are passionate about Pontiacs and about giving back to the community. Kara, who has been a Pontiac enthusiast since she was a teenager, is particularly devoted to Grand Prix models and currently has a 2005 GXP. She says this year’s charity car show was the most successful one they can recall.

“I was personally humbled by the outpouring of support and the number of spectators that returned to the gate tent after wandering the field to donate even more towards the cause. This year’s show not only celebrated a shared passion for automobiles but also underscored the power of coming together for a greater purpose.”

A History of Giving

Other beneficiaries of Yankee POCI have included Disabled American Veterans, Shriners Children’s Hospital and the American Cancer Society.

Leadership and Inspiration

In her role at The Commons, Kara inspires those around her. “She’s hardworking and selfless while always looking out for others,” says Campus Executive Director Reynaldo LeBlanc. “We’re proud to celebrate the club’s accomplishment on her behalf.”
