The Commons in Lincoln Residents Bring Team Spirit to Scarecrow Classic 5K
16 residents and 6 associates of The Commons in Lincoln, a not-for-profit continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Lincoln, Mass., teamed up to participate in the 14th annual Scarecrow Classic 5K on Sunday, October 18th, to benefit the Lincoln Land Conservation Trust, walking and running alongside nearly 700 fellow participants.
Five residents proudly placed in the race: twin sisters Jan R. and Joyce P. each earned first place in the female 90–99 age category, Bill L. took first place in the male 90–99 age category, Judi F. placed second in the female 80–89 age category and Jim A. finished third in the male 80–89 age category.
The Commons has participated each year since the inception of the event. This year was even more team-focused as residents trained and traveled together for the event and celebrated their accomplishments as a team over brunch afterward, exemplifying the genuine sense of community they share.

Fitness, Wellness and a Shared Sense of Accomplishment
“Each year, residents look forward to the Scarecrow Classic, and the excitement continues to grow. Today’s residents are more active than ever, embracing fitness, wellness and new challenges while demonstrating that an engaged, healthy lifestyle can continue well into retirement,” said The Commons in Lincoln Fitness Specialist Jason Williams. “That spirit is reflected in how heavily our fitness center is utilized and why we continue to expand our offerings, from additional treadmills to classes like Pilates and dance. The 5K is a wonderful opportunity for residents to put that energy into action while supporting one another and the greater community.”
Other associates with The Commons joined residents at Lincoln Station to staff a table on behalf of the community. While residents shared the experience with one another, many also pursued individual goals, such as working to achieve personal milestones or competing and placing in their respective age and gender categories.
A Cherished Tradition, Year After Year
Judi reflected on her personal history with the Scarecrow Classic. “The 5K has become a tradition for me, as I have been running in it for nine years. At my age, it’s not so much about winning but more about being able to run the race. Staying active is so important, and The Commons makes it easy and fun to prioritize our health and fitness,” she said. “I love that we have the chance to get out into the wider Lincoln community together and be active. It’s something I look forward to every year.”

Supporting the Land and Trails That Make Lincoln Special
The Commons in Lincoln is also once again a Lead Sponsor of the Scarecrow Classic 5K, which directly benefits the Lincoln Land Conservation Trust, a nonprofit organization that helps manage more than 2,500 acres of land and nearly 80 miles of public trails.
Access to surrounding conservation land is a defining feature of life at The Commons, offering residents the opportunity to enjoy preserved natural landscapes just steps from home.
