Lincoln, Mass. – Residents of The Commons in Lincoln, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Lincoln, Mass., will be lacing up for the annual Scarecrow Classic 5K to benefit the Lincoln Land Trust on Sunday, October 15th. But they won’t be at the start line at the Mall at Lincoln Station. Instead, residents, associates, friends and family will traverse a 3.1-mile route through The Commons campus and surrounding neighborhood. This is the fourth year The Commons has participated in the Scarecrow Classic 5K in this way.

“This race supports a cause near and dear to the community’s heart—the Lincoln Land Conservation Trust,” says The Commons in Lincoln Fitness Specialist Jason Williams. “During the pandemic, our residents were trying to stay away from crowds so they mapped out a course they could do on their own.”

It was such a hit, The Commons kept the course and participation has grown from 20 the first year to, Williams expects, around 50 this year. He has been leading practice walks to help residents get ready for the full course.

“We encourage residents to invite their family and friends, and associates take part, too. The goal is to get people out and walking to whatever degree they can, especially before the colder weather gets here. Fall is the perfect time of year to get moving!”

The Commons in Lincoln is a Sunflower Sponsor of the Scarecrow Classic 5K, which is celebrating its 11th running to benefit the Lincoln Land Conservation Trust’s 2,500 acres of land and public trails. The Commons’ proximity to conservation land and forests is a point of pride for residents, who are frequently found enjoying the area’s natural resources.
