An Autumn Afternoon at The Commons Celebrates the Season and Community
Against the wooded backdrop of Lincoln in peak autumn, The Commons recently welcomed waitlist members and guests for An Autumn Afternoon at The Commons, a seasonal gathering full of warm conversation in the crisp New England air.
Pumpkins, gourds, hay and seasonal florals set the scene as guests and residents gathered in the crisp autumn air. Throughout the afternoon, guests had an opportunity to spend time getting to know future neighbors and associates.
Live bluegrass music provided a lively soundtrack for the afternoon while the culinary team showcased the distinctive flavors of the season. Culinary Director Nina Quirk presented a harvest table featuring a generous charcuterie spread with Harvest Moon Gouda, truffle cheddar, Wensleydale with cranberries, olives and honey crackers.

Passed hors d’oeuvres included cranberry whipped feta and fig tarts, while mini cider donuts, pies and apple crisp with vanilla ice cream offered a sweet taste of autumn. Guests also sampled local ciders from Carlson Orchards, including Cider Barn Select, a semi-dry Belgian-style cider, and Peach Festival, a limited-edition cider crafted with farm-fresh peaches and honey.

A Community of Shared Interests
The afternoon offered more than seasonal tastes and entertainment. Guests met residents who devote their time and talents to the many clubs and committees that flourish at The Commons and learned more about opportunities for lifelong learning.
“It was such a pleasure to welcome future residents and guests considering The Commons for an afternoon of good food, local flavors and great conversation,” said Megan Bailey, Director of Community Relations. “What I enjoyed most was seeing people connect, share stories and get to know their future neighbors. That’s what makes gatherings like this special.”

A representative from Tufts University Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) joined the gathering to share more about programming and The Commons’ partnership with the organization. The conversation drew considerable interest from guests eager to learn how intellectual curiosity and continued learning remain part of everyday life at The Commons.
The Commons’ broader lifestyle materials emphasize resident-run clubs, committees and lifelong learning as important parts of community life, making these conversations a natural reflection of the experiences residents enjoy.

Bringing a Little Autumn Home
As the afternoon came to a close, guests received a simmering spice potpourri gift to bring the scents of autumn home with them. More importantly, they left with a closer look at the people, experiences and connections that could become part of their own next chapter at The Commons.
